Trident Prep Kalumbila

The school has an exciting and challenging atmosphere where purposeful learning takes place. We are a relatively new school, our doors opened for the very first time in March 2014.  Our school offers us all a great adventure, an exciting opportunity to begin a child's learning journey that will develop the potential of everyone.

 

Trident Preparatory Kalumbila has been set up in a fast-growing mining town, in the North-Western province of Zambia, to provide the best quality education to young boys and girls. The school is located in the beautiful Miombo woodlands of the Trident Woodlands Estate. This allows our students access to a number of facilities and enables them to explore the natural habitat. The spacious classrooms have been designed to enable the teachers to make the most of our unique environment by offering space for outdoor learning to take place.

 

The local birdlife is extensive and zebra and impala can often be seen grazing under the trees or on the school field. There is an emphasis on using the rich range of resources available to us in the local environment, as we believe that this helps to develop lively and enquiring minds and teaches children important life skills.

 

On joining the school, children quickly become an integral part of the community.  As we are a small school there is a caring, family atmosphere where all children are taught the importance of consideration and respect for other people and their beliefs. Parents have a vital role in the education of their children and we actively encourage close co-operation between home and school.  We value and build on the experience and knowledge which pupils bring from their home lives. Working in partnership, we strive to achieve the very best for each child and offer support and guidance to families to enable consistency across home and school.

 

Our aim is to educate the whole child. This means establishing a happy, welcoming and motivating learning environment, where everyone can enjoy learning and value the challenges of new experiences. We provide an inclusive curriculum that is creative, innovative and challenging, to develop the whole person, taking into account spiritual, moral, social and cultural needs. We aim to create an ethos where all our children are valued as individuals and value each other. The school offers the world renowned Cambridge Curriculum for the core subjects:  Literacy, Numeracy and Science and has recently adopted the International Primary Curriculum,  the fastest growing curriculum in the world.  We also ensure that our History and Geography lessons relate to Zambia. The IPC was introduced internationally in 2000 and has been successfully meeting the learning needs of children for many years. It took four years with leading educational thinkers, school leaders, highly skilled teachers and curriculum writers to create the IPC. Its continued development today ensures that children are learning a current and highly relevant curriculum based on the very latest research into the brain and the increasing understanding of how children learn.

 

Learning with the International Primary Curriculum means that children focus on a combination of academic, personal and international learning that is exciting and challenging.  The aim of the IPC is to help every child enjoy the learning of a wide range of subjects and to develop an enquiring mind, the personal attributes that will help throughout teenage and adult years, and to develop a sense of his or her own nationality and culture, at the same time developing a profound respect for the nationalities and cultures of others. Through the IPC approach to learning children develop the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to confidently face the world of tomorrow.

 

Our co-curricular program includes tennis, hockey, cricket, rugby, athletics, cross-country, music, chess, art and craft, computing, and shooting.  We have a team of highly motivated, enthusiastic, caring and industrious teachers and support staff who are committed to developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding which will enable children to enjoy learning and achieve success.   Our values promote high standards of conduct and behaviour and encourage personal responsibility.

 

We are endeavoring to educate our children to live and work in a rapidly changing world, one in which they will probably need to collaborate with people of diverse cultural origins, and appreciate different ideas, perspectives and values; we hope to begin preparing them for jobs that have not yet been invented, and to do this we incorporate the IPC Personal Learning Goals (Adaptability, Communication, Cooperation, Enquiry, Morality, Respect, Resilience, Thoughtfulness) into everything we do.
